Last year, we closely tracked 167 bills in state legislatures (plus a few in Congress) that would impact physician-led care. Most of these bills promised to erode patient safety by granting increased scope of practice to non-physicians.
Now, in 2026, we are already watching 26 bills with more surfacing every day. The ideas under consideration would impact Iowa, Massachusetts, Ohio, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, and the entire nation. Many of these are related to autonomous practice and increased scope for NPPs. To all our official supporters who reported a bill, thank you!
Now is a time for action and advocacy. Take these three steps to stand-up for physician-led care and join fellow physicians who are protecting patient safety.
1) Report a Bill
The easiest thing you can do to help us advocate for physician-led care this spring is to report a bill in your state. Use our “See it First” form to quickly submit a bill on which we should potentially take action.
2) Partner with Us to Advocate in Person
Our experts are frequently reaching out to testify in hearings, produce research, answer questions from journalists, publish op-eds, and make direct contact with lawmakers to share data-backed support for physician-led care. You can too. If you want to get more involved in these activities, or join one of our committees, reach out to our Executive Director, Linda Lambert, to raise your hand.
3) Mobilize Your Colleagues
Our efforts succeed because of your generous support. We need more physicians like you to get involved, make a donation, and help power our outreach. You already know the urgency of our cause. Now, share that urgency with your colleagues. Share our message about why they should support us.
The lawmaking landscape is dynamic. It’s advancing quickly across countless legislative chambers and committee rooms. If we don’t show up, these policymakers won’t have our perspective. Thanks for staying engaged in the fight for patient safety.
