A panel of physician experts at the AMA’s 2026 State Advocacy Meeting is being moderated by one of our founders and long-time thought leaders, Rebekah Bernard, MD, on the growing trend of NPs and PAs leaving primary care to work in specialty practice without additional or specialized training. This rapid shifting of practice area calls for states to form legislative responses to mitigate risk to patients.

The panel talks about the “misalignment” between NP education and training and the new specialty area in which they’ve chosen to practice.
