PPP President, Dr. Rebekah Bernard, was interviewed by Fox Carolina about a local medical school that’s acting to solve the physician shortage. The story mentions a bill in the legislature that would expand scope of practice for non-physicians after a few thousand hours of experience. In the interview, Dr. Bernard points out that there are better solutions to the physician shortage.
She says: “To me, it doesn’t really make sense that you’re saying a doctor has to complete this minimum or they’re not safe to practice medicine, but now we’re going to allow a different professional to do that same type of care, but in half as many hours or potentially even less.”
