ALERT: The CDC is considering certifying non-physicians (NPs/PAs) in its “B Reader Program”.

The program certifies physicians to classify X-rays of workers participating in federal health surveillance programs for the presence and severity of pneumoconiosis, a type of dust-induced lung disease.

This potential change raises important questions about truth & transparency in practitioner credentials, patient safety, what defines the practice of medicine, and the quality of care. Expanding eligibility could increase error rates in interpreting and classifying these critical medical images.

The CDC is requesting public input on this proposal until March 17, 2025.
